Medical Marijuana Q & A

Medical marijuana is marijuana use that’s been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat certain medical conditions. Common forms of medical marijuana include:

  • Pills
  • Oral solutions
  • Topical applications
  • Dried leaves and buds

Garcia Family Medicine can determine if you are eligible for the Missouri medical marijuana program.

Some of the many conditions medical marijuana can help with include:

  • Chronic pain
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Nerve pain
  • Parkinson’s disease tremors
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Nausea
  • Glaucoma
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Anxiety
  • HIV-related wasting syndrome
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Cancer pain
  • Epilepsy and seizures
  • Severe nausea

Every patient is different, but Dr. Tess lets you know if you’re a candidate for medical marijuana based on the type and severity of your condition.

When you arrive at Garcia Family Medicine for a medical marijuana evaluation, your provider weighs you and checks your pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs. Dr. Tess reviews your medical history and asks about symptoms you may have. She completes a physical examination to check for signs of illness, injury, and disease.

Dr. Tess might recommend you undergo blood tests, urine tests, X-rays, or other imaging procedures to diagnose your condition. If you’re a candidate for treatment with medical marijuana, she doesn’t prescribe marijuana, but she can help you qualify for a medical marijuana card in Missouri.
